Robyn – #KillingMe Twitter campaign

robyn-killingme-twitter-campaign

In the run up to her new single launch Robyn (or her clever digiteam more like) has commissioned an interactive website that self updates based on people’s Twitter submissions.

The new song is a rebellious tune all about the daily hassles facing a Swedish popstar (you can imagine how hard it is)… but she lists all the things that are ‘killing’ her and then drops a large bassline as she shouts ‘Don’t Fucking Tell Me What To Do!…’ something all of us can appreciate (excuse the language mum). :)

Anyways they picked up on that last bit of empathy and made an interactive website that plays the song in a loop as people’s submissions of what is killing them in their daily lives is flashed up on the screen based on their tweets containing the hashtag #killingme.

Quite a clever campaign don’t you think? Much more reason to get involved than the Uniqlo one we saw here.

Obviously she has the freedom of being a popstar and it not really mattering if someone chooses to get all f***ing and blinding. Remember a similar Skittles campaign?

Anyways, get involved and include your #killingme tag to see the results on www.robyn.com/killingme

Facebook’s Facial Recognition!

facebooks-facial-recognition

Facebook have added in the option of being able to tag your friends’ faces automatically on photos you’ve just uploaded. It uses the same kind of technology already available in lots of new digital cameras and it’s a travesty (!) that they didn’t implement it a while back what with it being called Facebook and all that!

Anyways, this has stripped out the tediousness of uploading that huge album of the party you were at with all your friends and having to sit through all 100+ photos tagging the same drunken faces over and over again while your hangover is raging… :)

Early things that some people have already been moaning about are that it will infringe your privacy… Not like Facebook will be running around all the photos on its site and tagging them all willy nilly… The person uploading the photos still has to do some of the work and help the “Facebook face recogniser” (that’s what we’re calling it anyway) pick out the first few faces by approving them. Then it will only tag photos in that album…

A very welcome addition indeed! Thanking you.

Quote of the day

quote-of-the-day

Prince, he of the amazing back catalogue, squiggle and teeny tiny high heels on male form says: ‘The internet’s completely over. I don’t see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won’t pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can’t get it. The internet’s like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that be good for you.’

This either means we’re all out of jobs and need to retrain as beauty therapists. Or that Mr Prince is a crazy… Are you going to tell him or shall I?

Meanwhile, he’s decided his new album will be released in CD format only in the Mirror. But seriously, we’re entering an age where we’re all having to rethink everything. What used to be an obvious route to market isn’t always the case any more, so good luck to Mr Prince – just don’t ask him to run your social media campaign for you.

Lady Gaga vs President Obama

lady-gaga-vs-president-obama

Lady Gaga is the first living artist to get 10 million fans on Facebook. People are saying, ‘this is good’.

She’s even beat President Barack Obama by 700,000 – though the late great, Michael Jackson still has them whooped with 15 million. So there.

What’s interesting though is there’s no denying the power of Gaga in new/social media terms. If Madonna was the Queen of Reinvention back in the day, what’s interesting about Gaga is that she realizes the power of ‘a digital event’. Everything is leveraged to create a talking point online be it her costume, her gigs, her quotes – if you don’t follow her, please do, it’s always interesting. And there’s a lesson in that for everyone, folks.

Posterous? It’s bigger than you think*

posterous-it%e2%80%99s-bigger-than-you-think

OK, we get it: obviously everyone’s totally fixated by Facebook and Twitter as defining ‘social media’, but it’s a big old internet world out there everyone. And sites can slip under the radar. Those nice folks at TechCrunch have just flagged up the fantastic-ness of Tumblr and Posterous.

While we smugly stroked our chin and said, ‘Yes, we are familiar with the Tumblr’, we fell off our seat as Posterous has passed us by. And is growing at 700 percent a year. That’s a lot, stat fans.

What’s nice is that these sites sit somewhere between Wordpress and Twitter, so totally perfect for half-assed bloggers. Posterous has 5.3 million monthly unique global visitors, with 2.2 million in the US.

These sites offer users all the traditional blog features like editable themes and photos but with the convenience of mobility through their app developments. These apps have been the major driving force behind the huge increase in site traffic and user sign ups.

TechCrunch says, ‘Both are growing spectacularly because when you lower the barriers to publishing, the posts (and audience) will follow.’ We second that emotion.
