How Webdoc Can Help The Entertainment Industry
As social networking evolves and expands, it’s hard to predict what new site is the next competitor claiming to fill a gap in an already busy market.
Defining itself as ‘a new way to interact online with the people in your life’, Webdoc offers a collective creative process that differs to the social media we are accustomed to, creating an interactive scrapbook of sorts.
The best way to describe a ‘webdoc’ is to imagine it as a blank virtual canvas; representing a particular subject, where users conversations can take place in various forms.
Once a webdoc is opened participants can add pictures, videos, music and many other interactive apps to the canvas. Users are encouraged to put in old and existing material, as well as their own comments from their Twitter streams even.
Unlike a Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr page that can be kept personal to the user, ‘webdocs’ are like Wikipedia pages that have become ever-growing organisms as people add to them.
Real time reactions are nothing new, however the ability to include old and existing documents is almost like a cultural time machine online, building a clearer picture of how past and present zeitgeists developed.
Creative businesses can really leverage ‘Webdocs’ to their advantage: music artists can create hype before, during and after tours and releases with flyers or scrapbooks, television programs can create a further platform for fans to enjoy discussion outside of the usual Facebook and Twitter restraints and any business or product looking for competition ideas can use the interactive element of ‘Webdocs’. And of course, it can also be imported directly into your Facebook feed and blog.
Launched in 2009, the site is still in ‘silent-beta’ mode, but news of a Facebook app, iPhone app and Android app on its way suggests that Webdoc is definitely going somewhere.
The sign up process takes a matter of seconds and it all begins when you click ‘New Webdoc’ at the top.

‘The 9 C’s’ outline the various ways in which people interact with others online, including two previously unidentified categories: Commercialists and Collaborators.
To find out which user you are, see the infographic below:
